Breyer 2024 Premier Club 'Llywellyn' Welsh Cob

£250.00
Type: Breyer

With exquisite new sculptures and finely detailed finishwork, each release in Breyer’s Premier Collection is a true celebration of equine artistry.

Ponies of Welsh Cob type have roamed the mountains and valleys of Wales since at least the Middle Ages. Used for a variety of tasks, from ploughing farms to timbering, and even serving as war mounts, these versatile ponies have a rich history. With his extended gallop, Llywellyn would fit right in as a small but swift “rouncey” leading the charge. He’s on a mission, and he’s going to do it fast!

The Welsh Pony and Cob Society, established in 1902, created the breed’s first studbook. At that time, ponies were categorized into “sections” based on their build and height. Known as “Section D,” the Welsh Cob is the largest of these four types. Cobs must be taller than 13.2 hands and should have a stocky stature while still maintaining pony characteristics such as small ears and large eyes. Cobs excel in nearly every discipline, performing equally well in harness and under saddle.

Llywellyn was sculpted and designed by Irish equine artist Eva Rossiter as her first Traditional scale piece for Breyer. She shares, “As soon as horses became a part of my life, the Welsh Cob quickly became my favorite breed. To me, they are the perfect blend of power, beauty, and humor.” For Eva, Llywellyn is the model horse she has dreamed of having since childhood. In addition to sculpting, she also designed his coat—a stunning dappled buttermilk buckskin.

The personality in this piece is undeniable—the tenacity of this time-honored breed is evident in every strand of his billowing mane and tail. Eva adds, “Whether he's on a trail ride, approaching a jump, or simply spotting a bucket of food, he is on a mission and he is going full speed ahead!”

Each Premier Collection exclusive model is a hand-painted work of art, and no two are ever precisely the same.
