When you think of a mule, does an image of a stubborn pack animal come to mind? Well, Buckeye is here to change that perception! This flashy 2008 leopard Appaloosa John mule, owned by Christina Gregory, is turning heads in the dressage arena and proving that mules have a place in high-level competition.
Trained and shown by Sammi Majors, Buckeye is thriving in a sport traditionally dominated by warmbloods. Sammi shares, “The wonderful thing about dressage is that any breed can do it.” When it comes to training mules, she notes that while they might not enjoy repetitive drills, they retain their lessons exceptionally well. Sammi also incorporates cross-training into Buckeye’s routine, including over-fence classes at mule shows.
